Favorite Things

I wanted to share some of my favorite things with my readers as I feel like others would enjoy them as well! Some of these are resources that helped me grow in my faith, and some are just really cool/informational/entertaining resources that I think you will enjoy if you are a reader of this blog.

Warning: I am nerd who enjoys all things media including, but not limited to, podcasts, tv shows, music/musicals, documentaries, self-help guides, novels, graphic novels/comics, productivity apps, DnD, and board games.

  1. Blue Like Jazz by Donald Miller

In Donald Miller’s early years, he was vaguely familiar with a distant God. But when he came to know Jesus Christ, he pursued the Christian life with great zeal. Within a few years he had a successful ministry that ultimately left him feeling empty, burned out, and, once again, far away from God. In this intimate, soul-searching account, Miller describes his remarkable journey back to a culturally relevant, infinitely loving God. This memoir is a well-written, eye-opening experience of a person who, thinks he knows God, to actually knowing him.

2. Bandersnatch by Erika Morrison

Contemporary Christianity seems to be suffering from an epidemic of sameness. Uniformity. Monotony. Those trapped inside are often afraid to step beyond established norms and innovatively express themselves, or they simply don’t know how. And those on the outside of Christianity often see very little that attracts them. Yet God, out of the abundance of his own artistic force, made each one of us unique. Peculiar. Irreplaceable. So why so much pressure to conform? Y’all, this book inspired this blog. I will be posting a more in-depth blog post on this one… just because.

3. She Reads Truth bible studies/community

She Reads Truth started as a small group of strangers on the internet who wanted to be more intentional about reading God’s Word. What began as a casual conversation is now an entire community of women all over the world in pursuit of Jesus. Bible studies are free if you are viewing them on their website, or you can purchase them on their app for a few dollars each.

4. Fellowship Church Knoxville (my church!)

The above link is to my church’s podcast page where you can listen to past and the most recent sermons from our pastors, Rick Dunn and Greg Pinkner.

5. Relevant Magazine

Relevant magazine, both online and the print version, is a well-written magazine that discusses recent news stories, cultural happenings, and pop culture events from the viewpoint of Christian ideologies and values.

6.  Invisibilia podcast

Invisibilia (Latin for invisible things) is about the invisible forces that control human behavior – ideas, beliefs, assumptions and emotions. Co-hosted by Lulu Miller, Hanna Rosin and Alix Spiegel, Invisibilia interweaves narrative storytelling with scientific research that will ultimately make you see your own life differently.

7. Tim Ferriss  (author and teacher)

Tim Ferriss has been listed as one of Fast Company‘s “Most Innovative Business People” and one of Fortune‘s “40 under 40.” He is an early-stage technology investor/advisor (Uber, Facebook, Shopify, Duolingo, Alibaba, and 50+ others) and the author of four #1 New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestsellers, including The 4-Hour Workweek and his latest, Tools of Titans: The Tactics, Routines, and Habits of Billionaires, Icons, and World-Class Performers. The Observer and other media have called Tim “the Oprah of audio” due to the influence of The Tim Ferriss Show podcast, which is the first business/interview podcast to exceed 100 million downloads. Love his books and his podcasts!

8. MealLime (recipe creator app)

Mealime is a simple way for busy singles, couples, and families to plan their meals and eat healthier. Our meal plans & recipes are highly customizable so you can easily personalize a plan that works with your unique tastes and lifestyle. I have my personal meal creator set to low-carb and gluten free recipes!

9. Audible (audio books)

Listen to your books wherever you are with our free app—at home, in the car, at the gym. Even if you switch devices, you’ll never lose your place.

I am HUGE fan of audiobooks especially while working out or in the car. Audible makes it so easy to download a new book and sink your teeth into a really good story. The quality of the books are outstanding, and if you end up not enjoying a book you are listening to, you can return it for free! I get my Audible credit on the ninth of each month, and it feels like a treat to pick out my next read.

This page will get updated periodically, so stay tuned! And if some of your favorite things are mine too, let me know in the comments!
